Dawsons Corner

Final road surfacing – November 2026

The Dawsons Corner and Stanningley Bypass improvement scheme is now entering its final stages, with final road surfacing taking place during November.

To complete this safely, a series of overnight lane and road closures will be needed from Monday 9 November to Sunday 29 November. Work will take place between 8pm and 5am, with roads and lanes reopening each morning. As road surfacing can be affected by poor weather, the programme may be subject to change, with contingency dates built in where required.

When will closures be in place?

12–17 November
Final surfacing begins around Dawsons Corner, with closures affecting the route towards Stanningley Bypass and the Owlcotes Lane slip road. Access to New Pudsey Station will be via Woodlands Avenue. Businesses remain open as usual.

23–29 November
Further overnight lane closures will be required around Dawsons Corner to surface the remaining areas of the scheme. Owlcotes Lane will be closed, with access to and from New Pudsey Station via Woodlands Avenue.
there will also be temporary access restrictions at some residential streets while surfacing takes place.

Residents and businesses directly affected will receive separate information explaining the arrangements for their street or property.

Please plan ahead

Delays are possible during the overnight closures, so please plan ahead, allow extra time and follow the signed diversion routes.

Some noise is unavoidable while surfacing takes place. Our teams will work as considerately as possible and take steps to minimise unnecessary noise.

What happens next?

Following the main surfacing programme, some additional overnight works will take place between 30 November and end of December, between 8pm and 5am, with resident access maintained.

We will then continue with the finishing touches across the scheme, including final adjustments and tuning to the new traffic signals, landscaping and tree planting.

Thank you to residents, businesses and road users for your continued patience while we complete the final stages of the Dawsons Corner and Stanningley Bypass improvements.

Night-time works at Dawsons Corner

Night-time construction works are due to begin at Dawsons Corner from Monday 12 October as the major improvement scheme moves into its final stages. These works will help prepare the junction for final resurfacing later this year.

Over the next four weeks, work will take place between 8pm and 5am, Monday to Friday, to minimise disruption during the day.

The works will take place across the entire junction, with various lane closures required on all approaches to Dawsons Corner while the remaining islands are completed and maintenance works are carried out ahead of final surfacing.

Access to New Pudsey railway station and Owlcotes Shopping Centre will be maintained throughout the works. Some activities may be noisy, although every effort will be made to minimise disruption wherever possible.

We would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their continued patience as work progresses towards completion.
