Plan ahead – Horsforth merge and Horsforth to Rodley cycle link
After completion of the Fink Hill junction improvement scheme in December 2023, the next sections of the Connecting West Leeds programme between Horsforth and Rodley roundabout will start. From 22 July 2024 construction will begin and last up to 12 months.
The works involve widening the carriageway from Horsforth Roundabout towards Rodley to reduce congestion and improve bus journey times, along with improved pedestrian and cycle facilities between the two roundabouts linking to the facilities at Fink Hill, and those currently under construction between Rodley and Dawson’s Corner.

Coordinating summer roadworks
To minimise disruption the works are planned to start over the school summer holiday period to take advantage of reduced traffic levels. Also traffic plans are coordinated around other works in West Leeds such as essential gas mains replacement, closures at the Armley Gyratory, planned works at Dawson’s Corner and Stanningley Bypass.
Plan ahead, be patient and allow extra-time – traffic management
To allow the works to be undertaken in the safest and most efficient way, traffic management will be in place for the duration of construction.
Lane closures will mean one lane of traffic in each direction between Horsforth and Rodley roundabout, followed by the second lane being partially reopened towards Horsforth to give more capacity and improve traffic flow through the works.
We are working closely with the contractor to keep the duration of the lane closures to a minimum and to reopen to traffic as soon as possible.
A6120 Outer Ring Road closure for carriageway surfacing works.
Good progress is being made on improvements to the A6120 Outer Ring Road.
Advance notice is being given to help residents and businesses make any plans to help mitigate forthcoming road closures.
From Friday 4 October, the A6120 Outer Ring Road will be closed for five nights (9pm – 5am) between Horsforth and Rodley roundabouts, for carriageway surfacing. After this we can reduce some of the traffic management, which will lead to improving journey times through the works.
To minimise disruption, the road closure and works are planned around other works in the city and a fully signed road diversion plan will be in place.
Access to Calverley Lane and Calverley Bridge will be maintained via Rodley Roundabout, businesses will be open as usual. This is for safety reasons as there will be large vehicles and equipment operating off Horsforth Roundabout throughout the night. Local access will still be maintained for people walking, wheeling, and cycling.
Please see the diversion plan below. If we are unable to complete the works during this initial period due to inclement weather, the closure will be delayed to Friday 11 October.
