Transforming our City Centre
Leeds Inner Ring Road essential repair works
The Leeds Inner Ring Road (LIRR) is the busiest part of our highway network, carrying 90,000 vehicles a day. The northern section of the ring road from Armley Gyratory to Marsh Lane was first built in the 1960s. With 13 major structures, over 150 minor structures and 3km of retaining walls, it is a major task to ensure it remains safe for everyday use.
Having successfully completed repair works at Regent Street in 2022, we are now moving onto the next phase of works and are preparing funding bids to support maintenance for 12 of the major structures.
We are submitting a funding bid for £35m to the Department for Transport (DfT) Structures Fund for works on Wellington Viaduct and Wellington river bridges.
The bid document is available below.
