Driving to Leeds City Railway Station using the ring road

Transforming our City Centre

Driving to Leeds City Railway Station

Driving to Leeds city centre? Use the ring road - map

The easiest way to drive to Leeds City Railway Station is by using the city’s ring road.

Following the transformation of City Square, private motorists can no longer drive to the rear of the station by travelling left from Bishopgate Street along Wellington Street past the front of the Queens Hotel.

This means motorists travelling to the railway station via the M621 should now use Junction 2, and not Junction 3 which would lead to Bishopgate Street and the previous route which is now closed to private vehicles.

It is also important to allow extra time for your journey, as the area around the station can be affected by heavy traffic.

From M621 Junction 2:

  • Follow the A643 and turn left for Wortley Lane. At the roundabout turn left onto Domestic Road then left at the next roundabout onto A58 Domestic Street. At the next roundabout continue straight on to Spence Lane and Whitehall Road and follow signs to the Station.

This route is shown as a purple line on the map below.

  • Alternatively from M621 Junction 2: Follow the A643 before joining the A58 Inner Ring Road.  Exit the A58 at the junction for the A65, following the road round to Wellington Street. Follow signs to the Station via Northern Street and Whitehall Road.

  • If you are travelling from Junction 4 of the M621 or the A63, follow / join the A61 and use the right-hand lanes to move onto East Street and then Marsh Lane before joining the A64(M) ring road westbound. Follow the A64(M) onto the A58(M). Take the slip road onto the City Centre and Westgate and bear right following signs to the station, following the road as it turns to the right.

Once through the traffic lights take one of the two left-hand lanes (towards Halifax, Bradford and Huddersfield), following this until you are able to take the left-hand lane marked ‘city’.

Turn left onto Wellington Street and follow signs to the Station via Northern Street and Whitehall Road.

  • If you are travelling from the A64(M) westbound, follow this west onto the A58(M). Take the slip road onto the City Centre and Westgate and bear right following signs to the station, following the road as it turns to the right.

  • If you are travelling from the north of the city, you should join the ring road at the A58(M) and travel west, or join the A64(M) and travel west as it becomes the A58(M).

From there, take the slip road onto the City Centre and Westgate and bear right following signs to the station, following the road as it turns to the right.
