Otley Bridge
We are constructing a temporary footbridge in support of a replacement Otley footbridge.
As part of these works, there’s a need to remove a mature oak tree and a smaller tulip tree in Tittybottle Park. The removal of the trees originally planned for early next year has been brought forward to week commencing 2 December 2024. Weather permitting, the work will take approximately two days. Here's link to the location plan and further details.
A temporary road closure of Mill Lane will be in place to carry out the work safely. The closure and associated diversion will be the same as those implemented during the piling works carried out in September. Pedestrian access along Mill Lane and vehicle access to Adlington House retirement apartments will be maintained. Advance notice signs will be installed before the works.
The removal of the trees is necessary to help the installation of the temporary footbridge across the river next year. We very much regret having to remove the trees, but unfortunately it is not possible to move the large sections of the temporary footbridge into position with the trees in place.
We have explored alternative options to preserve the trees, but none of them are viable. This includes the use of pontoon bridges or installing the bridge from the northern side of the river.
We understand the importance of this tree to the community and are committed to mitigate the tree loss. We will plant several semi-mature trees in Tittybottle Park and off-site to compensate for the removal.
The planned works for installing the temporary footbridge and replacing the existing footbridge are still on track to commence in spring 2025.
