Leeds Safer Roads Vision Zero

Coming Home?
The decisions you make on familiar roads can change everything.
Studies show you're more likely to be involved in a road collision when close to home.
When you’ve driven the same roads for years, it’s easy to switch to autopilot, miss hazards and take shortcuts without realising.
On every journey
Drop the distractions
Stay alert, look twice
Monitor your speed
The Coming Home? Campaign
Coming Home? highlights how familiar journeys can lead to complacency, especially for experienced drivers who take the same routes every day.
The campaign uses simple messages and on‑street prompts to get you to look twice, slow down, and stay alert, even when the road feels predictable.
It’s designed for the moments when your mind drifts, you’re rushing, or you’re thinking about everything except the drive.
Why Kirkstall?
Data shows that men aged 25-39 in Kirkstall are disproportionately involved in road traffic incidents. The main contributory factor in collisions is failing to look.
Why do more collisions happen close to home?
The aim of this campaign is to reduce road collisions, and champion safe and sustainable travel amongst males aged between 25-39 who live work or travel through the Kirkstall area of Leeds.
The results of the campaign will be evaluated and used to inform our future work to deliver Vision Zero in Leeds.
Vision Zero is our ambition to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on Leeds’ roads by 2040.

Kirkstall travel survey
This survey is to help us understand the travel habits of men aged between 25 – 39 who live, work or travel through the Kirkstall area of the city. We are interested in this group because our data suggests that they are one of the groups who are disproportionately involved in road traffic incidents, particularly those involving speeding.
