Connecting West Leeds Phase 2

From 15 July, construction work will start between Horsforth and Rodley roundabout, for around 12 months. This is part of the Connecting West Leeds programme and follows the completion of the Fink Hill Junction improvements last year.

This notice is being given to help residents and businesses plan ahead to help mitigate any disruption caused by the works. The construction involves widening the carriageway from Horsforth Roundabout towards Rodley to reduce congestion and improve bus journey times. It will also improve pedestrian and cycle facilities between the two roundabouts linking to Fink Hill, and those currently under construction between Rodley and Dawson’s Corner.

To minimise disruption, the works are planned to start during the school summer holiday period to take advantage of reduced traffic levels. The council also has planned works around other schemes in West Leeds such as essential gas mains replacement, closures at Armley Gyratory, and planned works at Dawson’s Corner and Stanningley Bypass.

Next week will see the works site created for welfare and storage, followed by traffic management to allow for the works to be undertaken in the safest and most efficient way. There will be one lane in each direction for traffic between Horsforth and Rodley roundabout, followed by the second lane being partially reopened towards Horsforth to provide additional capacity and improve traffic flow through the works. We are working closely with the contractor to keep the duration of the lane closures to a minimum and to reopen to traffic as soon as possible.

Right turns from the A6120 into Calverley Lane and Calverley Bridge will be banned throughout the works to safely maintain traffic flow, vehicles will need to use Rodley roundabout to perform a U-turn and then turn left into the junctions.

The existing footway and bus stops between Horsforth and Rodley roundabout will be closed throughout the works for the safety of pedestrians. A temporary footway has been constructed on the opposite side of the road which can be accessed via the signal-controlled crossings at Horsforth and Rodley roundabouts. Temporary bus stops will be provided for services 10 and 30 towards the White Rose Centre and Pudsey Bus Station.
