Driving to the Royal Armouries using the city's ring road

The easiest way to drive to the Royal Armouries is by using the city’s ring road.

If you are travelling from the west, east or south of the city, we would recommend using Junction 4 of the M621.

On leaving Junction 4, follow the A61, take the exit for the A639 from the A61 and turn left onto A639 Hunslet Road and follow signs for the Royal Armouries via South Accommodation Road and Clarence Road.

If travelling from the A64(M) westbound, leave the A64(M) onto Marsh Lane and follow this along the A61. As it bends right, move left onto South Accommodation Road and down to the traffic lights at the roundabout. Follow the roundabout to Clarence Road, and travel along Clarence Road and then Armouries Drive.

This route is shown as an orange line on the map below.

If you are travelling from the north, we would recommend either the A64(M) westbound or using the M1.

From the M1 Southbound, leave the M1 at Junction 45 onto the A63 Pontefract Lane, following this before turning left onto the A61 South Accommodation Road. At Travel around the roundabout to Clarence Road, following this to Armouries Drive.

This route is shown as a purple line on the map below.

If you are travelling from the north of the city, we would encourage you to use the A64(M) eastbound. Follow this along the A64(M) and A64 York Road before exiting onto Ivy Street roundabout. Take the fourth exit onto the A64 westbound towards the city centre, exiting onto Marsh Lane and follow this along the A61. As it bends right, move left onto South Accommodation Road and down to the traffic lights at the roundabout. Follow the roundabout to Clarence Road, and travel along Clarence Road and then Armouries Drive.

This route is shown as a purple line on the map below.
