3. Housing & Affordable Housing
How should we plan for meet the need for new homes across the district?
Leeds Local Plan
Housing & Affordable Housing
What is this topic about?
One of the key roles of the Local Plan is to plan for the development of new homes that need to be built in Leeds up to 2042. The Government sets each local authority a target for how many homes should be built, and if we don’t do this there is a risk of unwanted speculative development being allowed in less suitable locations. We know that in Leeds there is a need for a variety of different types and sizes of housing, including significantly more affordable housing, and homes that meet a range of more specialist needs.
We want to hear from you about how we should be planning for new housing development. This includes the overall amount of new homes that are needed (and what the need is in different areas, towns and villages), the need for affordable housing, the mix of housing required, and the approach to specific types of housing – including housing for older people, students, Gypsy and Travellers and Travelling show people, accessible and adaptable homes and self-build and custom built homes.
