11. Flood Risk

How do we avoid, reduce and mitigate the risk of floods?

Leeds Local Plan

Flood Risk

What is this topic about?

Winters in the UK are getting wetter, and rainfall is expected to keep increasing, with some parts of Leeds already facing serious flood risks. The Plan will have an important role in managing flood risk to ensure that developments – and the people that use them – are safe, taking into account the impact that climate change may have.

We want to hear your views on how we should be planning for flood risk, including the approach to development on land at risk of flooding, how the risk of flooding is assessed and managed, and how safe access and escape is ensured. As part of this we also want views on how we can ensure water is used efficiently and its quality is protected, how run-off from development is managed (and how paving and loss of front gardens might impact this) and the approach to culverted watercourses.
