WC0007 New Cross Gate to Forest Hill

Our aims

The corridor between New Cross Gate and Crofton Park, known as Corridor 9 in our Active Travel Strategy, has been identified as one of our top priorities for delivering improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure.

An opportunity exists to transform this frequently congested route and improve connections between railway stations at New Cross Gate, Brockley and Crofton Park, by delivering up to 2.4km of new segregated cycle routes, ensuring links between the stations are accessible for all road users and safer, reducing the number of collisions and near misses.

We also want to improve your experience of public realm in these areas, and plant new trees and green space while we upgrade active travel infrastructure.

How will you achieve this?

We are able to deliver a number of interventions that would help make walking and cycling easier for residents in these communities, which include:

  • new segregated cycle tracks, physically separating cyclists from traffic
  • new cyclist and pedestrian crossings, making roads safer for those on foot or bike
  • traffic calming measures, including new speed cushions and cycle gaps
  • improved road markings and surfacing on local routes
  • new trees and green space along the route

Where would the scheme impact?

We're yet to finalise our designs and engagement with local residents, including this survey, will inform the design we present to the community via a formal consultation held at a later date.

Nonetheless, as we know we want to connect railway stations at New Cross Gate, Brockley and Crofton park with new active travel infrastructure, we're going to be contacting residents that fall within the following categories:

  • those that might experience direct construction work
  • residents that might experience temporary construction activity
  • residents who might see their normal access arrangements altered
  • other residents living on roads living within proximity to planned developments
