St John's and Tanners Hill
Project Background
Following earlier engagement with the community on our plans for a new Healthy Neighbourhood in St Johns and Tanners Hill, we're consulting on our proposed interventions, designed to make it easier for residents to live healthier, more sustainable lives.
We would like to understand the views of the public on our proposals to help us decide how we should implement our scheme.

Why here?
St John's and Tanners Hill has been identified as the highest priority area in Lewisham's Healthy Neighbourhood programme.
Our data shows why: most of the roads we monitored inside the area carry too much traffic to allow cyclists to ride alongside cars, and speeds often exceed 20mph. We also know pedestrians and cyclists are more likely to be involved in dangerous incidents and collisions than they should be.
We want to change this - we're working to make St Johns and Tanner's Hill a safer, healthier and greener area to live, work and travel in, by reducing congestion on roads, making sustainable and active travel easier and improving access for disabled and vulnerable road users.
What we're proposing
We want your thoughts on two main categories of intervention:
Traffic Management Interventions
Reducing the number of vehicles travelling through the area we've identified as the St John's and Tanners Hill Healthy Neighbourhood is central to the success of the entire scheme. Without this, any improvements we deliver to make it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport are at risk.
The interventions we're proposing to achieve this lower flow of through traffic includes modal filters, school streets and better pedestrian crossings. We want to know what you think about where these would be located, and how you think they might work in practice.
Complementary Measures
Alongside measures to reduce congestion within the area, we're proposing improvements alongside them, such as new crossings, greenery, better cycle parking and improvements to public realm. Your feedback will help us decide where to prioritise delivering these.

What we want to know
We want to understand your views on the traffic management interventions, and how these might impact you, whether you live in the area, use it to commute or just travel through regularly. We're also interested in where you might want to see upgrades to public realm, new crossings or other improvements, so we can prioritise the work that makes the biggest difference to local residents.
