What is Retrofit?

What does retrofit actually mean for your home and everyday life?

Lewisham Retrofit Hub

What is retrofit?

Retrofitting means improving your home so it’s healthier to live in, better at staying warm in winter and cool in the summer. It also costs less to heat. Retrofit can include things like:

  • Insulation in walls, the roof, and floors
  • New windows and doors that do not let cold air in
  • Better ventilation to stop damp and mould
  • A cleaner, low-carbon heating system
  • Solar panels on the roof to make free electricity

Retrofitting is about more than installing insulation or new heating systems. It's about your experience of how well you live in your home, how your home affects your health, and how it affects the planet.
