Housing Element Implementation Notifications and Engagement
As Los Altos Hills implements the 6th Cycle Housing Element, public engagement and input will be key as the Council, residents, and Town staff work together to craft policy which will shape the direction of residential develpment in Town for the next 7 years.
The Housing Element has 60 unique items which must be implemented to be in compliance with California state regulations for housing planning and development. These programs range from small staff-level procedural changes to rezoning portions of Town and developing design standards for multi-family units at the City Council level. The full list of these programs can be found in the Housing Element beginning on page 209.
For items requiring City Council or Planning Commission discussion and approval, there will be a multi-step process of public hearings and study sessions (see right). Each of these steps would be spaced out to align with regular standing meetings on the first or third Thursday of the month for Planning Commission and City Council respectively. This multi-month process will allow residents several opportunities to engage with staff and legislative bodies as they work through new and proposed housing policy.
