Housing Element Amendment and Ad Hoc Committee Meetings

Through a variety of community engagement events, the City Council and Community Development Department recieved substantial input and response from residents on the current language of the Housing Element and in particular, the allocation of specific densities in the strategic multifamily zoning opportunity sites. The 6th cycle Housing Element is being modified in response to ongoing feedback from residents and City Council.

At the January 30th meeting of the City Council, a motion was passed to form a special Ad Hoc committee to explore amendment and modification of the Housing Element to change the organization and unit distribution of the Twin Oaks opportunity sites for multifamily zoning. This Ad Hoc committee will be meeting to discuss the amendment and alternatives approaches to modify the Housing Element while maintaining compliance with the California Department of Housing and Community Development. The Ad Hoc committee will be meeting regularly in February and March to discuss the amendment process and will be presenting findings and discussing further action at the March 20th, 2025 City Council meeting.

What is the Ad Hoc Committee?

The Ad Hoc Committee for the Housing Element is a working group of composed of Councilmember Stan Mok and Vice Mayor Rajiv Bhateja along with a mix of residents, and topic experts who are focused on maintaining Los Altos Hills' current compliant Housing Element status.

What is the Ad Hoc Committee Discussing?

The Ad Hoc Committee is taking into consideration feedback from residents as well as council from Town staff as well as state and local experts on the Housing Element process. They are discussing potential revisions of target densities, the timeline for the implementation and amendment process, as well as the ongoing implementation of non-amended Housing Element programs among other items.

Absolutely! The Planning Commission, City Council, and Ad Hoc meetings will all have opportunities for public comment over the next several weeks. Please refer to the column on the right for meeting details.

City Council Discussion

The City Council will be reviewing the recommendations of staff, the ad hoc committee, and the Planning Commission regarding the modification of the Housing Element at a special meeting on Thursday, March 20th, 2025 at 4pm in the Los Altos Hills City Council Chambers. The public is welcome to provide comment on Housing Element discussion during the public comment period beginning at 4pm.
