2026 Crime Reduction Strategy

The Louisville Metro Police Department is deploying a long-term and sustainable strategic plan to address crime. This plan will focus on using relevant data, public-feedback, and a new three-step approach to fight crime, and build stronger relationships with the community. By working together and elevating the voice of the community, we can make Louisville a safer place for everyone.

We Want To:

• Make our neighborhoods safer: Reduce crime while fostering positive relationships with the community.
• Protect our residents: Decrease the number of victims of violent crime, including homicides and shootings.
• Work together: Partner with community organizations, city agencies, and residents to address the root causes of violence.
• Build trust: Increase public trust in law enforcement through open communication and collaboration.
• Create a safer future: Improve neighborhood conditions and create opportunities for all residents to thrive.

Our 3-Front Approach:

• Data Responsive Policing: Utilizing recent crime trends in all patrol divisions, this plan relies on Division Commanders to use problem solving methods to reduce crime in their respective divisions. This may include, along with other strategies, increased police visibility, walking patrols, deterrance through enforcement, or door to door canvases in areas with high crime rates.
• Violent Offender Enforcement: Focuses collaborative resources and partnerships on apprehension of the most violent people in the community, seizures of illegally possessed firearms, successful prosecutions, and reduced recidivism. This plan also focuses on providing resources and services to those who are associated with group violence and looking to change their lifestyle.
• Sustained Focus Improvement: Concentrates on areas with the greatest opportunity for improvement by reparing urban blight, updating technology, devoting investigative resources, improving community-neighbor relationships, and boosting community-police engagement.

• Area 3-Hill St to Algonquin Pkwy/Colorado Ave, 16th St railroad tracks to Industry Rd railroad tracks
• Area 4- E. Southland Blvd. to Badger Ave., Douglas Park to Southside Dr.
• Area 5-The California Neighborhood
