First Division - Digital Newsletter

About

The Louisville Metro PD is thrilled to introduce a centralized digital platform that serves as the cornerstone for sharing relevant news and information with the residents of the First Division. This innovative platform is crafted to foster an open and transparent communication channel, empowering citizens to stay informed and actively participate in the matters that affect their neighborhood.

Our commitment to public engagement means that your feedback and suggestions will play a crucial role in shaping the content and direction of this project, ensuring that it reflects the diverse needs and voices of our community.

In alignment with our guiding values of Integrity, Service, and Professionalism, we are dedicated to nurturing a strong partnership with First Division residents. Our digital newsletter will not only keep you informed but also serve as an interactive space where your insights directly contribute to our decision-making processes. As this project evolves, we invite you to engage with us, share your perspectives, and help us build a more connected and responsive community. Together, we look forward to upholding the trust and collaborative spirit that defines our approach to public service.

To demonstrate the above, and put our values into practice we want to share with you some of the latest decision making behind how we're keeping you safe, reducing crime and serving the community that we at LMPD love and cherish.

1st Division Strategic Crime Reduction Plan

What we're doing:
We've identified key areas within the community that we're focusing on improving and we refer to these as our Sustained Focus Improvement Areas (SFIs). You can find images of these attached under the supporting documents heading further down the page on the right hand side.

  • Increased police presence: You'll see more officers in your community. They'll be patrolling in several ways – on foot, on ATVs, and in patrol cars.
  • Focusing on visibility and engagement: Officers will be more visible in areas where crime is more likely to occur.

They'll also be making an effort to connect with community members, building relationships, and building trust within the community.

The Science Behind It

We're always looking for ways to improve safety and reduce crime in our community. To do that, we rely on the latest research and data to guide our strategies.

A recent study looked at how the amount of time police officers spend in high-crime areas affects crime rates. It found that when officers spend more time in those areas, it has a longer-lasting effect on reducing crime and disorder.

The study also found that patrols lasting 10-15 minutes were the most effective. Shorter visits didn't make as much of a difference, and longer visits didn't add a lot of extra benefit.

This research is helping us be more efficient and effective in how we patrol your neighborhoods. We want to make sure we're using our resources in a way that maximizes safety for everyone.

Why we're doing it:

  • Proactive approach to safety: We want to prevent crime, not just react to it. By being present and engaged in the community, we can identify and address potential issues before they become problems.
  • Collaboration, not just enforcement: We believe in working with the community to create a safe environment for everyone. This means finding ways to partner with local organizations and residents to achieve shared goals.

We are committed to working with you to keep our community safe. This initiative is about building trust, increasing collaboration, and ensuring that everyone feels secure and protected.
