Community Commitment – Louisville’s Consent Decree
Louisville is taking bold, decisive action to advance meaningful police reform and strengthen public safety for all residents.
While the U.S. Department of Justice has chosen to dismiss its lawsuit, our city remains steadfast in its commitment to accountability, transparency, and community trust. The reforms outlined in the consent decree will still move forward, guided by an independent monitor and informed by extensive community input.
This initiative reflects our shared determination to build a safer Louisville where all voices are heard and respected.
The reforms represent a partnership between Metro Government, the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), and the people of Louisville. At the heart of this effort is the belief that transformative change must be driven by the community itself. Residents will have ongoing opportunities to provide input, ensuring that these policies are shaped by lived experiences and reflect the needs and aspirations of every neighborhood. Together, we are committed to creating a city that upholds justice and guarantees the safety and dignity of all its residents.
