On July 1, 2024, the Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner, on behalf of the Flood Insurance Premium Assistance Task Force, has presented Governor Josh Shapiro and the General Assembly with the Flood Insurance Premium Assistance Task Force Final Report, which includes recommendations designed to improve the affordability and accessibility of flood insurance, bolster flood resiliency, increase flood risk mitigation, and protect Pennsylvanians from incurring flood damage that often results in thousands of dollars of uncovered losses. www.insurance.pa.gov/Coverage/flood/Documents/Flood-Insurance-Task-Force/FloodInsurance-PremiumAssistance-TaskForce-FinalReport-07-2024.pdf
Starting September 2025, construction on the Highland Drive Drainage Improvements project will commence to:
• Replace the existing culvert;
• Rehabilitate and expand the existing storm sewer system;
• Provide additional controlled stormwater flow capacity; and
• Restore the surrounding streambanks and roadway areas impacted by construction

Township hires consultant LandStudies for Flood Mitigation Assessment
The LMT Board of Supervisors voted to accept the proposal from Lititz, PA based consultant LandStudies for a Flood Mitigation Assessment in light of the July flooding in the township.
Community Listening Session
In response to the localized flooding event that occurred on July 15, 2023, the Township has hired LandStudies, an environmental consulting firm based in Lititz, PA to perform a flood mitigation assessment of the unnamed tributary (UNT) located on the west side of Taylorsville Road that crested its banks because of the storm. The assessment will evaluate conditions from the upper reaches of the UNT to its discharge point into the Delaware Canal and seek to identify opportunities to address upstream conditions and better manage storm water in the drainage area. This work is anticipated to be completed in November/December 2023.

Site Visits from LandStudies
LandStudies performed two site visits and conducted a stream walk for the entire drainage area that flows to the canal, including the Maplevale subdivision on October 11th & 12th to perform a visual assessment and identify potential restoration opportunities.
Highland Drive Drainage Improvements In House Workshop
An in house workshop will take place at 7:30 pm at the Lower Makefield Township building (1100 Edgewood Road) to discuss drainage improvements on Highland Drive.
LandStudies Presentation
LandStudies presented their Flood Mitigation Assessment - Findings & Recommendations to the Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors at their December 20, 2023 public meeting. The Assessment included a review of Existing Conditions, Historical Impacts, and Recommendations for potential restoration opportunities that may help to mitigate flooding in this watershed.

Flood Insurance Rountable for residents
Lower Makefield Township is hosting a Flood Insurance Roundtable session with representatives from PEMA on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Township building 1100 Edgewood Road, Yardley, PA 19067.
This educational session will be a resident based open forum & discussion with Bill Bradfield – FEMA Region 3 NFIP Insurance Specialist, Ken Roberts - State NFIP Coordinator & Emily Houdeshell - State NFIP Specialist about flood insurance & related topics.
