Grocery Market Analysis and Needs Assessment
The City of Muskegon is studying grocery access and community needs. Learn more about the project and help shape future recommendations.
Help Shape Grocery Access in Muskegon
The Economic Development team at the City of Muskegon is gathering input to better understand grocery access, shopping habits, and food-related needs throughout our community. We are looking for YOUR input!
Lettuce Tell You What's Been Going On
In June 2026 we hired a consulting firm through a competitive RFP to dig into the data and join us as we chat with the community. So far they've:
- Conducted a retail gap analysis and evaluated the local grocery market.
- Collected and analyzed demographic, economic, and market data.
- Worked with city staff to identify key stakeholders and plan community engagement efforts.
- Begun meeting with grocery retailers, community organizations, healthcare providers, schools, transportation providers, and other local stakeholders to better understand grocery access throughout Muskegon.
Doughn't Miss Out
On Tuesday, August 4, there is a series of stakeholder discussions to gather input from the community. Scheduled discussions include:
- 1:00 PM: Residents and Neighborhood Leaders
- 2:30 PM: Grocery Retailers
- 4:00 PM: Community and Nonprofit Leadership
- 6:00 PM: National Night Out Survey Booth
Residents and neighborhood leaders interested in participating in the 1:00 PM discussion are welcome to attend. To help us plan for the session, please RSVP by emailing isabela@shorelinecity.com.
Berry Good News
Community input is an essential part of this study. In addition to the stakeholder discussions and the National Night Out booth, the city has a community survey open and ready to be taken! Help us spread the word.
Coming to an Aisle Near You
Once complete, the findings from the market analysis, stakeholder discussions, and survey will be combined into a final report that will help guide future conversations and recommendations related to grocery access in Muskegon.
