City Commission Moves Apple Ave Redesign and Ownership Transfer Forward
City of Muskegon Moves Forward with Apple Avenue Project
At the May 13 meeting, the Muskegon City Commission approved resolutions in support of both the proposed street redesign and the transfer of Apple Avenue from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to the City of Muskegon. Watch the May 12, 2025 work session presentation here.
Shaped by nearly two years of public engagement—including recent input from public safety officials—the updated design includes a 10-foot shared-use path on the south side of the road, lane reductions west of Burton Street, and expanded public green space in Root Memorial Park near downtown Muskegon.
Full project details and public map illustrating the planned improvements is available on the Apple Ave Redesign project page: https://muskegon-mi.civilspace.io/en/projects/apple-avenue-redesign
Next steps include MDOT letting the project for bid and finalizing formal agreements later this year. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
