Western Avenue Resurfacing Project

The City of Muskegon is in the second year of a two-year resurfacing project along Western Avenue. The first phase was completed in October 2025. Work paused over the winter and summer months, with the final phase is scheduled to begin on September 8, 2026 and be complete by Halloween. The resurfacing of Western Avenue is being complete in two phase:

  • Phase One Complete: W Western Avenue from 8th Street to 4th Street
  • Phase Two Coming Fall 2026: W Western Avenue from 4th Street to Terrace Street

This is a resurfacing-only project. No changes are being made to the street layout, curbs, or traffic patterns. The design prioritizes improved road quality while minimizing disruptions to downtown businesses, residents, and visitors.

We are committed to maintaining access to local businesses and properties throughout construction. Traffic control plans and construction phasing will be developed in coordination with the selected contractor to reduce impacts on daily activity downtown.

👥 Informational Meeting
To keep downtown residents and business owners informed, the city is hosting an informational session at the Central Fire Station Community Room on Tuesday, August 25th from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM. This is a great time to stop in, learn about the project, and ask questions of the project engineers!
