Apple Avenue Project Update

At the May 12, 2025 City Commission Worksession, Public Works Director Dan VanderHeide presented an update on the Apple Avenue project. The presentation included an updated street plan and a proposed "takeback" of Apple Avenue—both of which are on the consent agenda for approval at tonight’s City Commission meeting (May 13, 2025). The takeback would transfer responsibility for Apple Avenue from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to the City of Muskegon.

Marc Fredrickson, TSC Manager with MDOT, attended the meeting to help answer any questions from the Commission.

To make the proposed design easier to understand, city staff created a Google MyMap highlighting the lane changes and planned amenities. This map reflects the most current design, incorporating input from public safety officials.
