Western Avenue Resurfacing Project

The City of Muskegon is preparing for a two-year resurfacing project along Western Avenue. The first phase was complete in October 2025. The contractor will pause work during the winter and summer months, with final completion planned for fall 2026. Information for fall 2026 will be released later in 2026. The project involves resurfacing several key streets in the downtown area, including:

• Western Avenue from 8th Street to Terrace Street
• 7th Street from Western Avenue to Shoreline Drive
• 6th Street from Western Avenue toward Clay Avenue (up to the alley)

Fall 2025 work began at 8th Street and extended to 4th Street. This is a resurfacing-only project—no changes are being made to the street layout, curbs, or traffic patterns. The design prioritizes improved road quality while minimizing disruptions to downtown businesses, residents, and visitors.

We are committed to maintaining access to local businesses and properties throughout construction. Traffic control plans and construction phasing will be developed in coordination with the selected contractor to reduce impacts on daily activity downtown.
