August 26, 2026 - Online Information Session

Public Hearing

Please be advised that the Town of Nantucket, acting through its Select Board, will hold a Public Hearing on September 9, 2026 at 5:30 PM to consider the taking by eminent domain of permanent utility easements pursuant to MGL c. 83 §1, MGL c. 39 §40(b); MGL c. 79 and Article 15 of the 2026 Annual Town Meeting for sewer, water and stormwater drainage located within the existing layout of certain private roadways as follows: Austin Farm Drive, Catherine Lane, Finback Lane, High Brush Path, Marble Way, New Hummock Circle, Sleepy Hollow Road, Somerset Road (portions), Clara Drive, Todd Circle, Hatch Circle, Doc Ryder Drive, Farm View Drive, Golf View Drive, Hendersons Drive, Mioxes Way, Smooth Hummock Way and Swayzes Drive.

Information Session

In advance of the public hearing, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 5:30 p.m., the Town will host an online information session for abutters and residents of the "Somerset Needs Area" with Town consultants Weston and Sampson, Town Sewer Director David Gray, Town Water Director Mark Willett, Town DPW Director Andrew Patnode, Town Project Manager Kevin Manuel, Town Real Estate Manager Tracy MacDonald, and Town Counsel Vicki Marsh, to discuss infrastructure improvements to the private roadways listed above and the public roadways of Bartlett Road, Raceway Drive, Somerset Road and Somerset Lane.

The session will include a brief project overview, a discussion of the subsurface investigation work taking place in September, and its property impacts.

A draft plan entitled “Town Utility Easement Plans,” prepared by Blackwell & Associates, Inc. dated August 7, 2025 and draft plan entitled “Exhibit Plan for Town Utility Easements” prepared by Nantucket Engineering & Surveying dated July 29, 2026, showing the proposed easement areas within the private roadways are attached hereto and available for public review upon request from Tracy MacDonald at tmacdonald@nantucket-ma.gov.
