Waitt Drive-Seasonal Workforce Housing
Project Summary
The Town of Nantucket is proud to announce the successful completion of the Seasonal Workforce Housing project at 19 Waitt Drive, finalized in July 2025. This vital initiative now provides high-quality, dedicated housing for seasonal workers, such as the town’s seasonal lifeguards, who are essential to maintaining public safety and enriching the summer experience for both residents and visitors.
This completed project underscores Nantucket’s enduring commitment to its seasonal workforce, fostering community cohesion and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment throughout the year, especially during our summer season.
Project Overview
Size and Structure
The housing facility encompasses 10,000 square feet and consists of two stories, designed in a dormitory style. The facility accommodates approximately 50 occupants, across four different configurations. The project features a diverse range of living arrangements to include:
- 17 double or triple occupancy rooms
- 1 two-bedroom apartment
- 1 one-bedroom apartment
- 1 accessible room
Commons Areas & Amenities
To enhance the living experience, the dormitory includes a variety of shared facilities including a kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry facilities and a study/computer room. The project also features dedicated parking for 11 vehicles and is within walking distance to NRTA Shuttle stops and the Fairgrounds Road Bike Path.
