Background

Builder Billy Cassidy partnered with developer Housing Nantucket, to permit and construct the 22-unit workforce housing development on the former Fred “Wiggles” Coffin family 2 acre-property. The Coffin family sold the property to Housing Nantucket, realizing the need for workforce housing for our community. Housing Nantucket partnered with the Affordable Housing Trust to secure funding in the form of both grants and loans, to purchase the land and develop the property. Eight of the 22 units will be reserved for families earning up to 80% of Area Median Income. The other 16 units will serve families making between 110% and 150% of Area Median Income.

Project Timeline

2021
The Family of Fred “Wiggles” Coffin sold the 2-acre property to Housing Nantucket with a grant from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
2022
The groundbreaking of the 22-unit development took place to celebrate the creation of mixed-income affordable housing on Fairgrounds Road.
2023
With construction costs skyrocketing, Housing Nantucket requested an additional $1.5M in funding for the project. The Trust and Select Board approved their request in July of 2023.
