Surfside Roadways Project Meeting
A Summary & Video Recording
On August 14, the Town held a public information session to present the proposed improvements for the Surfside Area Transportation Improvements Project. In attendance from the project team were DPW Director, Drew Patnode, Town Administration representatives Gregg Tivnan, Erika Mooney, and Chuck Larson, Transportation Program Manager, Mike Burns, and the Town’s engineering consultants from Greenman-Pedersen, Inc., Zachary Wassmouth and Nick Desalvo.
The project team presented the design elements of the proposed improvements, basis of design criteria, and the estimated timeline for final plan review, easement takings, bidding, and commencement of construction. The major components of the project include improved roadway subbase and pavement surfaces, closed system stormwater infrastructure, traffic calming elements, clearings for improved sightlines, and new bike paths throughout the 2.3 mile corridor along Lovers Lane, Okorwaw Avenue, and Monohansett Road. The meeting ended with a thorough Q&A session where abutters and the public had an opportunity to express concerns with the proposed improvements, ask questions about the basis for designs and evaluation criteria, and learn more about the engineering, permitting, and other considerations that led to the final design.
