Waitt Drive Workforce Housing Phase 1

The Town of Nantucket is advancing a municipal workforce housing initiative through the development of Town-owned lots on Waitt Drive into dedicated housing for Town and Nantucket Public Schools employees. This project supports the Town’s commitment to workforce retention and recruitment by providing stable, affordable year-round housing opportunities for essential municipal and school staff who are increasingly impacted by Nantucket’s high housing costs. The initiative aligns with the Select Board’s Strategic Plan and reinforces the Town’s long-term investment in supporting year-round public services and community stability.

Phase 1 of the project will focus on site clearing and preparation, construction of the initial two residential buildings, and establishment of the foundational land and streetscape layout for the development. Building 1 (Style B) will include two (2) one-bedroom basement apartments and two (2) two-bedroom duplexes, while Building 2 (Style A) will include one (1) one-bedroom basement apartment and one (1) two-bedroom duplex. This initial phase represents the first step toward the broader Master Plan buildout and will establish the framework for future workforce housing development on the site.
