Alternate Library Service Location, Main Facility Closing Date

Normal Public Library will close its 206 W. College location to the public at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 30 and open for abbreviated services at 201 W. College on April 1.

Normal Public Library will close its 206 W. College location to the public at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 30 in preparation for the upcoming asbestos remediation and renovation project.

The 206 W. College location will remain closed for the duration of the renovation project which is expected to take 10-12 months. As early as April 8, Broeren Russo Builders, Inc, will begin work on the building.

Branch library opens April 1

To ensure uninterrupted access to library collections and services, on Monday, April 1, Normal Public Library will open a temporary branch office in the former Busey facility at 201 W. College Avenue.

“We will build up services at the branch as we transition from 206 W. College to the temporary location at 201 W. College. Curbside hold pickups will be available April 1, and we will add additional services throughout the beginning of April,” says Laura Golaszewski, patron experience manager.

Planned services at the branch will include:

  • curbside hold pickup through the first drive-thru lane of the building
  • a browsing collection of materials available for checkout
  • public computing, printing, copying and faxing services

Staff will assist community members in accessing library services. The vast majority of the library’s collection remains available by request.

Normal Public Library programming, including regular storytimes, book clubs, take-and-make programs, and others will continue at various off-site locations. Dates and locations will be provided via the library’s online calendar. Staff will be available by phone, email and in-person at 201 W. College to help direct community members.

Book sale March 23 & 24, donations paused

Donations of materials for the library’s ongoing book sale will pause due to space constraints. The library will host a $5-bag sale on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24 to reduce book stock as staff prepares to close the building at 206 W. College. All proceeds benefit the Normal Public Library Foundation, which provides funding for many of the specialty programs and reading challenges that the library offers throughout the year.

Project information will also be communicated via information in Normal Public Library publications, on its website, in its biweekly newsletter, and on social media platforms.
