Community members discussed visions for the future of Normal April 24
Topic of discussion: what is the future of Normal?
More than 35 community members gathered in a classroom at the Community Activity Center on April 24 to discuss visions for the future of Normal.
Participants were presented with four posters of mock events that could take place in Normal in 2050. In small groups, they discussed their favorite event and the future it implies. Participants came back together to hear report-outs from each group and examine common themes which came up repeatedly:
- equitable access to green spaces
- personal connections with neighbors
- resilient local food systems
- strategic land use and
- accessible public transportation
The public meeting ran from 6:30 to 8 p.m., but many attendees stayed longer to continue the conversation. Notes from each small group and the large-group discussion will be shared with the Vision 2050 Steering Committee in May. Themes and findings witl be integrated into the report submitted to Town Council in September.
