Town Advances Sculpture Park Master Planning

The Town of Normal Council approved a Resolution on Monday, June 17 authorizing the Mayor to execute a Design/Professional services contract for a Sculpture Park Master Plan with Hitchcock Design Group. Staff has successfully worked with Hitchcock Design in the past to help with master planning for different park areas. The firm helped create an initial concept design for the proposed sculpture park to be located in the greenspace at the center of the circle drive at 1110 Douglas Street. The area includes existing mature trees, new landscape, sidewalks and lighting. The site already hosts a piece of public art entitled “Circle of Friendship” that honors the people and stories associated with the historic Illinois Soldiers and Sailors Children’s School that once operated on the property. The Public Art Working Group includes a representative from the ISSCS “Homers” alumni community.
