Update on Library Renovations

Renovations at the Normal Public Library continue, on-schedule

We are pleased to share work at the Normal Public Library is progressing on schedule. Following is the most recent update:

  • Asbestos remediation has been completed at the library’s main location, 206 W. College Avenue. Remediation efforts on all three floors of the library’s building were successful and the renovation process on the east half of the building has commenced with electric and plumbing work, as well as hanging sheetrock.
  • Renovation of the east side of the building is expected to be complete by December 2024. At that time, library staff will move the contents of the library from the west side of the building to the east side so the second phase of renovation may begin on the west side.
  • The project is on track to be complete by late Spring 2025. The library’s building at 206 W. College will remain closed to the public until that time.
  • The library’s temporary branch at 201 W. College continues to provide public services for the duration of the project. Programming for all ages continues throughout the community at various off-site locations.
