Play Sufficiency Assessment Published

Thank you to everyone who shared their views on play opportunities in North Ayrshire.

We are pleased to say that the Planning Service has published a Play Sufficiency Assessment (PSA) that covers the whole of North Ayrshire. The PSA is the result of several engagement activities, including workshops with primary and secondary pupils, drop-in events with local youth groups and receiving over 250 responses to our online survey. The views have really helped shape the PSA and will be used to help ensure that all children have the best experience possible when it comes to playing outdoors. The Assessment will also inform the next Local Development Plan for North Ayrshire.

The assessment concluded that overall, North Ayrshire offers a mixed and high-quality play experience throughout each locality.  The assessment does highlight however some places where provision is not as good a standard as elsewhere, in terms of both quantity and quality. The document also highlights that the experience of some groups of children (mainly older children and in particular older girls) is not as good as others. The PSA will help support development that enhances play provision in these areas, aim to improve the experience of those who perhaps don't have the same experience and will help maintain standards in areas where there is good provision.
