Proyecto de construcción de Price Boulevard
The Price Boulevard Widening Project will expand approximately 2.8 miles of roadway from east of Sumter Boulevard to west of Toledo Blade Boulevard.
This project was made possible after North Port voters approved a 2022 referendum authorizing the City to borrow funds for the expansion. The City Commission awarded the construction contract to Watson Civil Construction, Inc. in March 2025 following a competitive bid process. The Notice to Proceed for major construction is scheduled for May 19, 2025, with utility relocation work already underway.
The Price Boulevard corridor serves as a vital east-west artery for North Port, and the improvements are expected to address longstanding traffic congestion, enhance stormwater management, and improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
Construction is anticipated to take approximately three years, with substantial completion targeted for late 2027. The City is committed to minimizing disruptions by maintaining traffic flow throughout construction, except for intermittent closures necessary for waterway crossings.

FAQ
Project Overview
Q: What will the new road look like?
A: Once complete, Price Boulevard between Sumter Boulevard and Toledo Blade Boulevard will have two lanes in each direction and a continuous center lane for bi-directional turns. Ten-foot wide multi-use paths will be provided on both sides of the road, and the existing roadside swales will be replaced with a closed curb and gutter drainage system.
Q: Will the new road have pedestrian and bicycle accommodations?
A: A 10-foot-wide multi-use path will be provided on both sides of the roadway.
Q: How much will it cost?
A: As of March 18, a construction contract has been awarded to Watson Civil Construction, Inc. for nearly $80 million.
Q: How is the project being funded?
A: The majority of the project is being funded through Surtax revenue. Ordinance No. 2022-12 authorized the City to obtain financing through the issuance of bonds up to $80 million, with repayment supported by future Surtax revenues. Based on available Surtax revenue and the City’s financial capacity, the Finance Department secured a $55 million bond to support the project. Additional project funding is provided through eligible Surtax revenue accounts and other available funding sources such as Transportation Impact Fees and Road and Drainage District Funds as needed.
Q: What is the plan in case of a hurricane?
A: The work site will be cleaned of loose debris, equipment and materials secured or relocated, and the road opened to traffic, conditions permitting.
Q: What is the speed limit during construction and when the project is complete?
A: Currently 35 MPH; it will increase to 40 MPH after construction.
Q: Why is the Blueridge Waterway water level low?
A: Lowered to allow safe installation of a box culvert crossing west of Salford Boulevard (4 total box culverts along Price Blvd). Levels will stay low until that work is complete.
Staying Informed / Contact
Q: How do I stay informed of work activities near my house?
A: Sign up for resident notifications by emailing your name, address, email, and phone to PriceBlvdInfo@NorthPortFL.gov or calling 941-240-6960.
Q: How can I tell where construction will take place close to my home?
A: White wooden right-of-way markers show the City-owned space between your property and the road edge; they'll remain throughout construction.
Mail & Garbage
Q: How will I get my mail during construction?
A: Temporary numbered mail kiosks (via USPS) will be used; a new permanent mailbox is installed after construction. Keys available at USPS - 13611 Tamiami Trail, North Port, FL 34287 (11 a.m.–3 p.m.), or call (941) 426-0940 to arrange pickup with ID and proof of address.
Q: How will the City pick up my garbage during construction?
A: Same collection days, but pickup starts earlier (6 a.m.). Bring totes out the night before.
Driveway & Easements
Q: How will my driveway connect to the new roadway smoothly?
A: May require slope/grading adjustments; requires signing a Temporary Construction Easement (TCE) — otherwise there may be a bump between road and driveway. Easement expires after project completion.
Q: What will happen to my driveway?
A: The portion within the right-of-way will be removed and replaced at no cost to you.
Q: Why are driveways being removed and for how long?
A: To install drainage pipes/utilities, widen the road, and add multi-use paths. Temporary asphalt-milling driveways provide access until permanent restoration.
Q: What if I have a paver driveway?
A: Pavers will be removed, stored, and reused where possible; unusable ones replaced with a close match.
Q: What if my driveway is painted?
A: New driveway will be painted to match as closely as possible.
Q: Why do I have to sign the easement form?
A: Grants temporary access to remove/reconstruct your driveway and adjust your front yard for the new road/sidewalk.
Q: How long will I be without a driveway?
A: Up to 8 days for concrete curing.
Q: Where do I park with no driveway?
A: The contractor provides an acceptable alternate location/access.
Q: How will I get into my house when my driveway is being replaced?
A: The contractor coordinates directly with residents to maintain access.
Yard, Landscaping & Mailbox
Q: How will the new road affect my front yard?
A: New sidewalk edge will sit roughly where the swale is now; swale will be filled, and right-of-way yard areas graded/sodded for drainage.
Q: What will happen to landscaping/trees in the temporary construction easement?
A: Right-of-way must be cleared — remove anything you want to keep (landscaping, irrigation, fences, decorations, signs) before crews arrive. TCE landscaping will be protected where possible.
Q: What will happen to my mailbox?
A: All residents get a new, standardized mailbox.
