Project Description

Poorly maintained roads constrain mobility, significantly raise vehicle operating costs, and increase accident rates and their associated human and property costs. Postponing road maintenance results in high direct and indirect costs. If road defects are repaired promptly, the cost is usually marginal compared to the high costs of full reconstruction at three times or more the costs, on average. Due to the economic restraints of the last few years, 64 miles out of 179 road miles need resurfacing/reconstruction within Peachtree City.

December 2023 Update

Road maintenance is an annual endeavor that does not have an end date. The City has significantly increased its annual paving amount with the SPLOST. With the help of IMS (City Road rating contractor) and their software program, Public Works can prioritize roads for the appropriate treatment and timeframe.

Public Works administers the annual paving contract and has completed 60 total miles of roadway since 2018 using a combination of SPLOST and General fund dollars. The city’s road network has increased from a Pavement Condition Index of 61 to 84. This would not have been possible without SPLOST funding.
