2017 Project 30: Fire Dept. SCBA Replacement

Status: In progress
Location: CityWide
Proposed Project Year: 2018
Original Project Budget: $270,000

Project Description:

The Department's Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBAs) have been in service for at least 12 years. These critical devices are used by firefighters operating in dangerous smoke conditions. Each firefighter is assigned an appropriately sized SCBA Mask. All current breathing apparatus lack several safety features required by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Personal Protective Equipment Standard. The protective equipment standard is currently under review with adoption expected in 2018. This project will replace all 56 of the Fire Department’s Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.

Final Progress Update:

This project was originally budgeted at $270,000.00 to purchase replacement Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus.

SPLOST Actuals Total: $487,609

SPLOST Funds Over Budget: $217,609

To complete this project, an additional $217,608.74 needed to be reallocated from SPLOST contingency funds for a total of $487,608.74. Most of this overage can be attributed to the cost of replacing all air cylinders, integrated thermal imaging technology incorporated into twenty-eight of the units, and testing hardware not originally anticipated.
