2017 Project 32: Fire Ladder Replacement
Status: Completed
Location: Citywide
Proposed Project Year: 2019
Original Project Budget: $1,000,000
Project Description:
This replacement request will replace this 2004 aerial apparatus presently used in a reserve capacity in accordance with guidelines set by NFPA for replacement cycles of fire apparatus. Historically, repair costs and downtime of older model vehicles increase significantly as vehicles age. While some of the loose equipment can be reallocated from the vehicle being surplus, this project includes funds to upgrade the hydraulic extrication equipment and other equipment nearing their respective end of service life.
Final Update:
The Tower Ladder was purchased in September 2020. This new Tower Ladder replaced a 20-year-old unit that was scheduled for replacement. Using SPLOST dollars, the City was able to replace the unit with the same reach height as the previous unit and a faster set up time for fire crews.
SPLOST Actuals Total: $1,140,160
**SPLOST Funds Over Budget: ** $140,160
In getting price quotes for a new ladder truck the Fire Department found the average price was between 1.3 to 1.5 million dollars. To find a more cost-effective option, the Fire Department found they could purchase a demonstration model for around 1.1 million dollars. Therefore it was decided to purchase the KME 2019 102’ mid-mount platform aerial for $1,132,950.00.
