This project includes the design of installing high quality bike facilities on the corridor that coincide with bike facilities on the Casco Bay Bridge, upgrading pedestrian crossings and coordinating with MaineDOT WIN 027506.00 - State Street and High Street Signal Replacement Project in order to improve safety and efficiency for all modes of transportation. The York Street Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Improvement Project is also tied to the proposed State Street and High Street two-way conversion project.
Recommended Concept.
The 50% Draft Preliminary Design Plans' recommended concept includes:
- rehabilitated sidewalks
- two curb-separated, one-way sidewalk-level cycle tracks
- a pedestrian-refuge/crosswalk across York Street at Park Street
- a consistent three-lane street (with inside lanes that alternate directions)
- tightened curb radii and narrowed street width of Park Street (south side)
- an esplanade on the south side of York Street for overhead utilities and street trees
- a street configuration designed to mesh with the planned conversion of State and High Streets back to two-way traffic.
