City of Portland Unveils First Electric Trash Truck in Maine

The City of Portland is excited to unveil the addition of an electric trash truck to its fleet – the first electric trash truck in the state of Maine. The Mack LRE Packer truck is an all-electric, full-size refuse truck.

Public Works Director Mike Murray said, “with lower maintenance requirements and reduced fuel costs compared to traditional diesel counterparts, this refuse truck offers a compelling total cost of ownership proposition, delivering long-term savings for the municipality and the Portland taxpayer.”

“By choosing this Mack LRE Packer, the City of Portland has demonstrated a commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, contributing to a cleaner, greener future for generations to come,” said Troy Moon, the City’s Sustainability Director.

Funded with City Capital Improvement Plan funds as well as substantial funding from the Volkswagen Settlement Fund and Diesel Emissions Reduction Act grants. The Maine Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Air Bureau administered the grants.
