When Community Becomes Unity

City of Portland 5 Year Community Development Plan

WHAT IS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUNDING

The Federal Government gives funding to Cities and States across the country for the purpose of improving their communities. The City of Portland gets these funds every year and uses them to help build better streets, parks, and recreation facilities. The City also give some to organizations in the community that provide help to the homeless and people in need.

The City's most recent funding was

  • $1.8 million for community development

  • $800,000 to build housing

  • $166,000 for homeless services

WHAT IS THE 5 YEAR PLAN

The City must submit a 5 year plan to the Federal Government to continue to get this funding. The 5 year plan must discuss the broad needs and goals of the City. All projects that get Community Development funding must accomplish one of the goals in the 5 year plan.
