Community Park South Master Plan

The Municipality of Princeton launched a public engagement program in Spring 2023 to inform the planning for improvements at Community Park South. Suburban Consulting Engineers “(SCE)”, a landscape and engineering design firm, used community feedback to prepare several concept plans for the renovation of Community Park South. Community Park South is a significant asset within the Municipality’s park inventory, as it provides a centralized location for recreation activities and is in walking distance of various neighborhoods, including Witherspoon-Jackson.

SCE worked collaboratively with the Municipality’s team, stakeholders, user groups, Princeton residents, and community partners to help ensure diverse needs and priorities were considered in the overall park planning. A steering committee comprised of residents, staff and elected officials also worked with the consultant throughout the process to understand the community’s desire for the park and how to accommodate them in the final concept plan.

Input and feedback was gathered through community engagement meetings on March 30, 2023 and June 8, 2023, targeted small group meetings with stakeholders and user groups, and surveys that were distributed to the public and made available on the municipal website.

Final concept plans were presented at a Recreation Commission meeting on October 26, 2023. At that meeting the Recreation Commission voted to recommend to mayor and council Concept A as the preferred design concept for Community Park South. Concept A was presented to mayor and council at a work session during the November 27, 2023 council meeting. From that point, the next steps were to move from the concept phase to the design phase of the project and seek proposals for the design work.

During the summer and Fall of 2024, The Municipality of Princeton sought proposals from qualified engineering and landscape architecture firms to update the park master concept plan and prepare phased, construction-ready plans and specifications for the Community Park South Reconstruction Project. Staff and Recreation Commission members reviewed the proposals. Prospective firms were interviewed in the Fall of 2024. At the January 13, 2025 council meeting, the Mayor and Council approved a resolution to authorize the award of a professional services agreement (PSA) to Bowman Consulting Ltd for design servcies for the reconstruction of CP South.

On June 23, 2025, the consultant (Bowman Consulting Ltd) and municipal staff presented the revised concept plan and provided an update on the project at the meeting of mayor and council. Next stages of the project will include more detailed refinement of the concept plan, the preparation of a phasing plan, an updated cost estimate (Winter 2026) and construction ready bid documents (Summer 2026).
