Township of McNab/Braeside New Proposed Comprehensive Zoning By-law
The Township of McNab/Braeside is in the process of creating an updated comprehensive zoning by-law for the entire Township to replace the existing Zoning By-law 2010-49.
About Zoning By-laws
A zoning by-law controls the use of land in your community. It states exactly:
- how land may be used
- where buildings and other structures can be located
- the types of buildings that are permitted and how they may be used
- the lot sizes and dimensions, parking requirements, building heights, and setbacks from the street or other features (i.e. environemtnally sensitive areas, industrial uses, mineral aggregate resourses).
- The Zoning By-law enacts the general land use policies contained in the County of Renfrew Official Plan.
- Zoning By-laws put the plan into effect and provide for its day-to-day administration. They contain specific requirements that are legally enforceable. Construction or new development that doesn’t comply with a zoning bylaw is not allowed, and the municipality will refuse to issue a building permit.
The comprehensive zoning by-law divides the municipality into different land use zones, with detailed maps. The by-law specifies the permitted uses (i.e., residential, commercial, environmental protection) and the required standards in each zone. The Township is required to update its zoning by-laws within three years after the approval of the County of Renfrew Official Plan update. All previously adopted zoning by-laws will be repealed when the new by-law is approved and in effect.
The Township is required to hold an Open House and a Public Meeting that are open to the public to review, and provide comments on, the proposed Zoning By-law and Schedule A maps. Details for the Open House and Public Meeting are provided on this page.
