Washington Park Master Plan
The Washington Park Master Plan will seek to build better connections and access between recently redeveloped park amenities, provide more shade, and create new amenities prioritized by the community. It will encompass the entirety of Washington Park, including both the upper and lower sections of the park.
Marvel Designs of Richmond has been selected to lead landscape architecture and planning efforts for the development of master plans for Washington and McCadden parks. In July, community members joined us for a public meeting to share ideas and help shape the vision for both spaces.
We’re continuing to collect input through online surveys, which will be used to guide the next phase of planning. This feedback will be shared during public meetings in fall 2025, where we’ll take a closer look at design concepts and potential features. Sign up to receive project updates to receive information about these upcoming meetings!
Final master plans are expected to be completed this winter. Thank you for being part of the process as we plan for the future of our parks!
Once completed, the master plan will help the City make decisions about improvements for Washington Park as funding becomes available.
Opportunities to Engage

Additional Washington Park Master Plan Feedback
In the first round of public engagement this summer, we asked about what amenities and features community members would like to see in Washington Park. For this round of feedback, we are asking residents to consider options for how these amenities and features should be organized in the park—what areas are best for passive or active recreation (see images below)? What amenities make sense to cluster close together, or spread far apart? How should all the amenities be connected? Take a look at the following three early concepts for how the park might be laid out, and let us know your thoughts on each.
