Proyecto de resiliencia ante inundaciones en el centro de la ciudad

The City of Roanoke is making strides to reduce downtown flooding by upgrading stormwater drainage system so it can handle more water volume.

Phase 1: 1st Street SW

Five storm drainage inlets located on 1st Street SW are going to be upsized, which will reduce flood risk in the area. The drainages are located at the intersections of 1st Street and:

  • Luck Avenue SW
  • Church Avenue SW
  • Kirk Avenue SW

The City is working with local business owners to minimize disruption as much as possible. We appreciate your patience with traffic and noise disriptions as we complete this important project that will protect life and propterty downtown.

  • Timeline: March 2026 – May 2026
  • Impacts: Expect periodic roadway, sidewalk, and parking detours and temporary closures

Phase 2: Kirk Ave SW

This phase will upsize two existing storm drainage inlets and add one new drainatge inlet. Together, these improvements will decrease flood risk in the area.

  • Timeline: May 2026 – August 2026
  • Impacts: Expect periodic roadway, sidewalk, and parking detours and temporary closures
