Iniciativa de la calle principal
Gracias a una subvención administrada por Main Street America y financiada por la Fundación Robert Wood Johnson (Unlocking Capital), la ciudad de Roanoke fue seleccionada como una de las tres comunidades de Virginia para una cohorte conjunta con Virginia Main Street.
El Enfoque de la Calle Principal es una estrategia enfocada y deliberada para revitalizar y fortalecer la economía de un centro vecinal. Las estrategias incluyen participación comunitaria y eventos, participación voluntaria, embellecimiento, apoyo a pequeñas empresas y emprendedores, y acceso a subvenciones para invertir en vecindarios y cubrir espacios vacíos. Juntos, la Ciudad y la comunidad explorarán cómo Roanoke podría contar con distritos vecinales transitables y vibrantes. En otras comunidades, el Enfoque de la Calle Principal ha facilitado recursos y financiación que propietarios y líderes comunitarios utilizaron para convertir edificios y terrenos sin mantenimiento en negocios y viviendas.
Cuando la Ciudad elaboró el Plan Integral de la Ciudad 2040 y el Plan de Centros Vecinales, la gente expresó su deseo de ver revitalizadas las zonas de centros vecinales, como la calle 11, en toda la ciudad. La Ciudad quiere contribuir a que esto suceda, y el Enfoque de la Calle Principal es una de las muchas herramientas que utilizará para implementar los centros vecinales previstos en el Plan de Centros Vecinales.
