Project Summary

This project will restore the section of Garnand Branch adjacent to Garden City Blvd between Crown Point Rd and Bandy Rd where streambanks are collapsing.

Crews will remove the old concrete walls along the channel and build a new, more natural stream channel in their place. The unused Findlay Avenue bridge will also be removed, since it currently contributes to flooding along this part of Garden City Boulevard.

The surrounding floodplain will be improved with native plants and wildflowers. These improvements will help the stream function better, support wildlife, and create a more attractive space for people using the greenway.

Timeline: February - October, 2026

What Is a Stream Restoration?

Healthy streams provide important benefits. They help reduce flooding, prevent erosion, filter out pollution, and create habitat for wildlife. When a stream becomes degraded, restoration work helps bring those benefits back.

Stream restoration is one of the ways the City’s Stormwater Utility improves local waterways. Every project is different and designed to meet the specific needs of that section of stream.
