Coventry Street Neighborhood Traffic Calming Plan
A collaborative traffic calming plan to reduce speeding and enhance safety.
About
The Coventry Street Neighborhood Traffic Calming Project was requested by the residents of Coventry Street through a petition that was submitted in April 2022. Traffic studies were conducted in various locations along the street, and the results confirmed high speeds on Coventry Street which met the criteria for traffic calming implementation.
Following multiple meetings with residents, and in line with the Traffic Calming policy, the residents of Coventry voted on the following traffic calming elements:
- Traffic circle at the intersection of Coventry Street and Danbury Street
- Four (4) speed cushions on Coventry Street
The vote was conducted over a 4-week period. On February 22, 2024, the voting period ended, and the neighborhood met the support vote required. The City received ballots from 58% of all households, and of the ballots received, 81% were in favor of the Plan, meeting the 67% in favor requirement.
The Coventry Street Traffic Calming Plan was then approved by the Traffic and Transportation Commission on March 14, 2024, and by the City Council on April 9, 2024.
Construction began on the project on March 9, 2026, and is projected to be completed in May.
