Sanford City Council piloted a cycle of participatory budgeting to give residents the ultimate say in which community enhancement project should be funded next.
How it worked: Council selected three potential projects that were feasible, cost effective, sustainable, and that would have a positive community impact.
From August 11 through August 22, 2025, residents were able to cast a vote for one of three community enhancement projects. Voting was conducted online through this engagement portal.

The winning project was annouced in early September.

Option 1: Landscaping Improvements at City Entrance Signs - Beautify key entry points into the city with enhanced landscaping at the signs located on Highway 421 North, Highway 87 South, and at the intersection of Highway 42/US-1.
Option 2: Concrete Games in City Parks - Install permanent, weather-resistant games in multiple municipal parks to encourage family-friendly recreation and community interaction.
Option 3: Winter Wonderland at Depot Park - Create a professionally decorated, photo-friendly holiday area with lights and seasonal displays for visitors to enjoy during the upcoming winter season.
