Resurfacing – Siesta Key

Siesta Resurfacing Project Overview

Road Selection:
The Sarasota County resurfacing program schedule is complex and depends on many factors which are re-evaluated every year as a part of our budget process. Resurfacing program priorities are set by the condition of the roadway surface and base, expected deterioration of the pavement surface from year to year, proximity to other roads being resurfaced, traffic volumes, and most importantly, available funding. Our goal is to resurface the worst of the roadways first and coordinate with adjacent projects as much as possible.

Project Description:
The construction contract for Resurfacing FY 22 Increment 3, Siesta Key project, includes the residential section of Beach Road and Coral Cove and is part of a county-wide roadway resurfacing and neighborhood improvement effort. The project includes milling and paving of existing roadways, pavement striping, ADA ramp modifications, curb repairs, and roadway base repairs.

Existing Work:
Starting May 20, 2024, message boards were installed at the intersection of Siesta Drive and Higel Avenue and Midnight Pass and Beach Road.

Planned Work:
Concrete work is expected to start in early June with pavement resurfacing starting mid-July. Construction notices were sent out to businesses and residents in May and notification to residents on the respective street of paving will be by door hanger, approximately 3-days in advance of the milling and paving operation. It is anticipated that the first area to be milled and resurfaced will be in the Siesta Key Circle area, then moving southward.

Project completion:
The project's anticipated completion is January 2025.
